Welcome to Moms Without Milk, a specially designed resource offering hope and healthy alternatives for moms whose breastfeeding journey looks different than they expected.

Maybe you are not necessarily without milk, but you face breastfeeding problems that make it challenging (or even impossible) to breastfeed.

Perhaps you have to supplement with formula due to low milk supply; or you have IGT, PPD, or an autoimmune condition requiring medication; or your baby has a medical condition which affects breastfeeding; or you couldn’t produce breast milk at all. There are 20+ reasons explained here.

Rather than discussing these situations in hushed conversations, we connect in this space to 1) wrestle openly with struggles around breastfeeding, 2) support and encourage one another, 3) advocate for early intervention and solutions, and 4) share healthy formula options and all-around feeding support.

Quotes from moms which inspired this site:

  • I was searching for any support group or forum that would help me feel less depressed. Many sites support breastfeeding and cheer for successful moms but none support moms who really wanted to breastfeed but could not.

  • I was shamed by my family and pediatrician because they said that most moms give up too soon. We tried for three months, but I could never produce enough milk.

  • No one wanted to tell me that some women just can’t breastfeed. I wish that someone would dedicate more time, money, and research to this subject.

  • Everyone made me feel like it was my technique. I thought, What kind of mother can’t make milk for her baby?

  • Everything online always gives the impression that if you want to breastfeed, you can. But it doesn’t always work out that way. I feel like I am the only one with this problem.

There’s a theory in nature called swarm intelligence. I love talking about it here because it’s the idea that we are smarter together than alone. Isolation is one of the greatest challenges moms face as they work through struggles related to low milk supply, IGT, PPD, etc. If you are looking for a community of honesty, learning, and support, please join our Facebook Group.
